FOOD VARITIES IN NEPAL

 Food varieties are abundant throughout the country. Food varieties depend upon the geographical structure, ethnic group, climate precipitation, soil, and vegetation. There are over 100 food varieties in Nepal that one may find while exploring Nepal.

One of the best ways to understand Nepal and the people in it is through its food varieties. If you visit the households in Kathmandu, you will be served Rice, Lentils, vegetables, and Pickles. Similarly, Newari Community in and around the valley serves beaten rice with various beans items and boiled buffalo meat to their guest. If you visit Terai, you may be served with Tortilla (roti), organic vegetables, Curd, and spicy pickles. Himalayan reasons consist of Gundruk (Authentic Nepali dish) with Dhidho, Corn or maize rice, etc.

Some famous Foods Varieties in Nepal:

1.         Dal Bhat:

It is the most famous staple food of Nepal. A bowl of rice is served with lentils, varieties of green vegetables, meat, and pickles. Most Nepalese household consumes it twice a day like lunch and dinner.

2.         Thukpa/ Noodles:

Boiled noodles along with vegetables or meat chunks are very popular food items in Kathmandu and Mountain areas. It is consumed mostly during winters. Many restaurants also serve it as a popular dish.

3.         Momos:

Momos is a very popular dish in Nepal, especially Kathmandu. Many hotels and restaurants offer Momos to its guest and it is one of the most ordered dishes of Nepal. It is usually eaten as a snack, and fair enough to say every tourist who visits Nepal is bound to try it.

4.         Dhidho and Gundruk

They are the National Food of Nepal which is made by stirring flour continuously into boiling water until a mix is made. It is very high in protein and is the best diet meal for anyone who looks forward to fitness. It is mostly consumed in the Himalaya reasons as it helps create wrath in the body. It is served best with Gundruk. Gundruk is made by storing mustard in a pot which is then left to be pickled until the vegetables inside have undergone fermentation.

5.         Newari food:

This includes beaten rice, varieties of cooked beans, radish pickles, and many other items along with buffalo meat and pork belly.  It is a common dish in the Newari community, which is loved throughout the country and is adopted amongst other ethnic group as well. Some famous Newari Foods are:

 

 

•           Bara and chatamari:

Chatamari is a rice crepe that is referred to as Newari Pizza. It is served in big hotels and restaurants in Nepal and people seem to love every bite of it.

•           Yomari:

Is made during Yomari Puja, which falls in December. It is a Newari festival celebrated at the end of the rice harvest. Yomari is made by putting stuffings on Flour and eating.

•           Chhoila:

It is a typical Newari dish that consists of grilled buffalo meat, chicken, or mutton as well. It is served along with beaten rice.

6.         Selroti:

Selroti is one of the most preferred snacks during festivals like Tihar and Sankranti. It is a circular doughnut-shaped homemade snack.

Few other preferred varieties of Nepali foods and beverages are:

•           Samosa

•           Lamb Meat.

•           Sukuti

•           Panipuri- Chatpate.

•           Samay baji

•           Tonga.

•           Chyang.

•           Dahi.

•           Aalu Tama
