Trainning

Note: This training outline may differ for groups or specialist contributors if their time tables or needs to not accommodate this framework.

Training is generally provided over the course of one week and is designed to introduce you to FACE Nepal and to ensure you get an immersion style introduction to Nepali language, culture, and customs to equip you to work through your program.

General Orientation

In the first part of the training, you will be given an introduction to the program's schedule, an overview of FACE Nepal's structure and cost accounting framework, health care tips, cultural and social "Dos" & "Don'ts", and advise on the protocol of interacting with the host Nepalese family. The orientation phase provides you the necessary preparation for their volunteer work experience and the knowledge needed to deal with their host organizations and host communities.

Language Training

FACE Nepal offers one-on-one or group based introductory, intermediate and advanced level Nepali language courses based on your immediate program needs. During the orientation phase, you will be taught basic communication skills in spoken Nepali by professional language trainers in an environment designed to allow you to work at your own place. Upon the completion of the language tuition classes, you will be given work books to continue your language training throughout your placement. The ultimate goal of our program design is to help participants achieve basic skills in Nepali language and culture in a limited span of time. You will have many opportunities to use and improve the new language with your host family and throughout your program.

Cultural Orientation

As an introduction to Nepalese culture and history, we take you on a tour to various historic sights in the Kathmandu Valley , your orientation location and your placement area. Your tours include sightseeing and an overview any necessary service providers such as the Immigration Office, the post office, banks, Internet cafes, health clinics, and other important places.

For additional cultural training you will be taken out for various meals to experience the flavor and customs associated with dining on the local cuisine.

Education

During training participants will be given an overview of the religion, culture, history, caste system, politics, geography, necessary health precautions and various other topics that help prepare you for the diversity of Nepali life.

A full training itinerary will be provided upon your registration. The general one-week training framework will include:
